 The David Munnelly Band

THE DAVID MUNNELLY BAND TO PLAY HORNER PARK

FRIDAY, JULY 18, 7PM BEHIND THE FIELDHOUSE

Irish button accordion wizard David Munnelly & his popular, multi-award winning group bring new excitement to traditional music with their Irish tunes influenced by the Golden Age of Irish American music of the 1920's & '30's  & their stunning traditional songs, all performed with an exuberance, energy, and a fiery passion that has won them widespread audiences around the world.

David Munnelly performed with The Chieftains from the age of 21 to 25, and is featured on The Chieftains' Grammy nominated CD "Water From The Well." He also was a member of Irish supergroup DeDanaan.  He has released three critically acclaimed albums with his own group which have set sales records at a number of American festivals, and mentions Boston’s Joe Derrane as one of his major influences.

The David Munnelly Band has been seen worldwide on the BBC World Television program "Destination Music: Ireland" for their headlining performance at Ireland's esteemed Ballyshannon Folk Festival. They have also been featured in the U.S. on Superstation WGN-TV, and were highlighted in a two-part concert on NPR's "Celtic Connections," aired on over 100 stations across America. This summer the band headlines a number of festivals including Ireland’s prestigious Ballyshannon Folk Festival. They are delighted to be making their Boston debut at ICONS.

Paul Keating of the Irish Voice says, "A real crowd-pleaser and one of the more fascinating groups coming out of Ireland...the band to see!" Bill Margeson of LiveIreland.com states, “There is no more loved group in the tradition…Munnelly is a creative force at the true epicenter of Irish music…brilliant, brilliant music...miss it and you'll be missing where the tradition is going." Earle Hitchner of the Irish Echo says, “Every time he picks up the box, Munnelly guarantees excitement.”

River Day 2008 a Success at Horner park
Written by John O Connell
Sunday, 11 May 2008

More than 60 people, including a team of Boy Scouts from Troop 894 were out in force to help clean the riverbank at Horner Park.  Saturday, May 10 had Horner Park as a key site in the Friends of the Chicago River's River Day Clean up.  Teams of volunteers from the Chicago Conservation Corps, and Earth Tech employees from city and suburbs, as well as several committed neighbors converged on Horner for 3 hours of positive community spirit and service.

A pile of garbage more than 15' x 15' was accumulated, including the remnants of an abandoned tent.  Site Captain John O'Connell was pleased, adding "This is the best turnout we have ever had on River Day.  It shows that being green is growing in our society as more people want to give back to the planet.  Picking up some trash along the riverside is a great way to get involved, and help yourself feel good about your support of our neighborhood."
