River Day 2012 a Success

E-mail Print PDF
Horner Park River Day volunteer with tools

We would like to thank all those who came out on a rainy Saturday morning recently to help steward our parks for River Day.

We had volunteers at Horner, Sunken Gardens and Jacob Parks on May 12.   Activities included litter pick up and buckthorn removal at Horner.  Between the three sites there were nearly 50 volunteers helping out!

Special thanks to Site Captains John O'Connell and Theresa Hicks (Horner), Ben Ranney (Jacob), and Luke Ross (Sunken Gardens) for their help that morning. Special thanks also to Friends of the Chicago River for organizing this multi-county effort, and supplying T-shirts and gloves.

New this year: we are moving the series from it's traditional Sunday evening to Friday nights.  We will also be bringing back free Shakespeare in the park on a Saturday and Sunday in June with a new production of As You Like It.

Opening the season at Ravenswood Manor Park on June 15 will be Dave Dondero, an acoustic troubadour who has been called by NPR Radio as one of the Top 10 Living Songwriters in America.  Two weeks later we follow with Gypsy Folk music by Barclay Martin and his band on June 29.  As You Like It follows on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1 at 5 PM.  Addtional nights in July and August are announced below, or are to be annouced soon.  In all, 8 FREE EVENINGS of live entertainment await the public this summer!

Fundraising has begun, so anyone interested in becoming a subscriber or sponsor should contact this website by email, and we can help you show your support for our neighborhood.
