River Bank Improvement Project Revival?

The Horner Park Advisory Council has learned that the Horner Park River Bank Improvement Project from 2001 may be revived.

Through HPAC Vice President John Lyman's diligent inquiries with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) it was revealed that in 2003 they had officially approved the project for further investigation.   The USACE's status page for the project can be found here: http://www.lrc.usace.army.mil/projects/Horner_Park/index.html.

In July of 2003 Chicago Park District General Superintendent David Doig agreed to share 35% of the estimated cost of $2.9 million. His letter is the last page of the 21-page PDF of the USACE's memorandum the preliminary plan: approved prp.pdf.

Congressman Mike Quigley, US Representative for Illinois 5th congressional district, is crafting a budget proposal to take the project to the phase.

Newsflash

Next HPAC meeting will be on Monday, September 13th,  2010 at 700pm (back to normal start time) at Buffalo Park (4501 N. California Ave) if weather permits, and Horner fieldhouse otherwise.  There is no August meeting.
