Horner Park Advisory Council Announces Membership Drive
The Horner Park Advisory Council is looking to recruit new members to help in our mission to make Horner Park and our satellite parks of Ravenswood Manor, Buffalo, Sunken Gardens and Jacobs Playground a better community place.
We achieve our mission by working with the Chicago Park District, other governmental agencies and civic organizations on programs and improvements at Horner Park for the greater good of our neighborhood.
Among our many successes, improvement to the ballfields at Horner, the expansion of Ravenswood Manor Park, 15 years of free summer concerts at Horner and Ravenswood Manor Park, the pergola at Ravenswood Manor Park and the council ring at Buffalo Park, annual Earth Day and River Day park cleanups, and playground improvements at Horner and Manor Parks. Current projects include a new flagpole and seating area at Horner to honor a slain Chicago Police Officer, an underbridge connector at Irving Park Road, and a Riverbank Initiative that will transform the use of the Chicago River along Horner Park.
Membership is free, and only requires regular attendance at our meetings during the course of a year. We meet on the first Monday evening of each month at Horner Park Fieldhouse at 7 PM.
If you are looking to improve your resume, if you are looking to benefit our local neighborhood, if you use our parks, if you care about quality programming and safety, if you are looking to make new contacts and network with public officials, this is the organization for you.
We are particularly looking for people with accounting skills, website abilities, a love of gardening, and the desire to help on staging the concert series. Local businesses are also encouraged to get involved, and to help in sponsoring initiatives.
